Banting medal

The Banting Medal , English name Banting Medal for Scientific Achievement Award , the highest of the American Diabetes Association award (ADA) scientific honor. It has been awarded to doctors and scientists since 1941 in recognition of outstanding and long-term contributions to the understanding of diabetes mellitus and to the treatment and prevention of this disease.

The award, named after the co-discoverer of insulin and Nobel laureate Frederick Banting , is endowed with US $ 20,000 and is linked to a lecture by the laureate called the Banting Lecture at the ADA's annual scientific conference. Nominations for the Banting Medal can be submitted by all ADA specialist members, the winner is selected by a committee of the society with the approval of the board of directors.

An award from foreign doctors and scientists is possible. In 1946, the University of Toronto was honored with a Banting Medal for its role in the discovery of insulin .
