Manoel de Barros

Manoel de Barros (born December 19, 1916 in Cuiabá , † November 13, 2014 in Campo Grande ) was a Brazilian writer and poet .

Barros has received several awards for his work, including twice the Prêmio Jabuti , Brazil's most important literary prize.

Critics regard him as one of the great names in contemporary Brazilian poetry, Carlos Drummond de Andrade considered Manoel de Barros to be the greatest poet in Brazil.

In 1998 the poet was awarded the "National Literature Prize of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture" for his complete works.
