Manon Vernay (born January 7, 1989 in Maisons-Alfort , France ) is an Australian national handball player from France .

Career

In the club

Vernay was born in a Paris suburb but grew up in Toulouse . There she played basketball between 2003 and 2012. After Vernay was active in the youth in the French top division, she ran on in the adult division in the French second division.

After suffering from leukemia for twelve years, Vernay decided to emigrate to Australia, where she received citizenship in 2017. In Australia she played handball at the West Adelaide Handball Club and the Melbourne Handball Club. From 2017 she guarded the gate of the German third division club MTV 1860 Altlandsberg . After Vernay moved to Leverkusen , she joined the third division HSV Solingen-Gräfrath for the 2018/19 season . After Vernay was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with Gräfrath in 2019 , she left the club for Australia.

In the national team

Vernay is a member of the Australian national team . With Australia, she finished fifth at the Asian Cup in 2018 . She also took part in the 2019 World Cup.

Beach handball

When Vernay was active in Germany, she played for the 12 Monkeys from Cologne. She is a member of the Australian national beach handball team. With Australia she finished sixth at the 2017 World Games . She also took part in the Beach Handball World Championship in 2018 .
