Park Joo-sun (born July 23, 1949 in Boseong-gun , Jeollanam-do ) is a South Korean politician and member of the South Korean National Assembly ( Gukhoe ), where he represents the constituency of Dong-gu, Nam-gu Eul in the city of Gwangju . He serves alongside Yoo Seong-min as one of the two co-party leaders of the Bareun-mirae party , the merger of the Bareun party and the Gungminui party , where he belonged to the Gungminui party before the political alliance.

Early life

Park Joo-sun was born in Jeollanam-do in 1949 and studied law at Seoul National University . He finished his studies in 1980. In 1987 he finished his doctorate at the University of Cambridge . He then worked as a public prosecutor until he went into politics .

Political career

Park Joo-sun first tried to be elected to the South Korean parliament as a member of the Sae-cheonnyeon-minju party of President Kim Dae-jung , but failed in the primary. He was elected for the first time as a member of the Gukhoe as a non-party in the parliamentary elections in South Korea in 2000 . In 2016 he joined the Gungminui party founded by Ahn Cheol-soo . When it became the third strongest force in the parliamentary elections in South Korea in 2016 , Park was elected as the second deputy speaker of the parliament.

In the course of the early presidential election in South Korea in 2017 , Park applied in the Gungminui party's internal area code, but was defeated by Ahn Cheol-soo, who entered the race as a candidate and ultimately achieved third place. After that, Park served as interemist party chairman of the Gungminui party.

When his party merged in early 2018 with the liberal-conservative Bareun Party , a spin-off from the conservative Jayu-hanguk party to form the newly formed Bareun-mirae party , Park became one of the two co-party leaders alongside Yoo Seong-min from the Bareun party elected to the party.

Park is a member of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs and reunification. Politically, Park campaigns, among other things, to come to terms with the Gwangju uprising that took place in 1980 . In October 2019, he spoke out in favor of putting pressure on the United States to publish related documents. Park is also chairman of the parliamentary committee on friendly relations between Korea and Croatia . Park spoke out in favor of declaring June 15 and October 4 as national holidays, since summits between North Korea and South Korea took place on these days in 2000 and 2007 .
