Mansour El-Essawy
Mansour Abdel Kerim El-Essawy has the rank of general in the Egyptian police and is a politician, previously responsible for regional policy and most recently for the interior department. On March 6, 2011, he was appointed to succeed Mahmoud Wagdy as Interior Minister in Essam Sharaf's cabinet . In his former role as Deputy Head of Security in Cairo, El-Essawy campaigned against corruption. He was previously the governor of Al-Minya .
On March 15, 2011, he announced the dissolution of the State Security .
On March 22, some 18,000 police sergeants demonstrated outside the Home Office to demand El-Essawy's resignation, Wagdy's reinstatement and a raise. The communications center was set on fire, and it burned down completely. The incident made it clear, among other things, that numerous officials and employees of the Egyptian police had remained attached to the old system of Mubarak.
The Sharaf cabinet resigned on November 22, 2011, including El-Essawy.
