Welch Award in Chemistry

The Welch Award in Chemistry is an annual chemistry prize awarded by the Robert A. Welch Foundation (founded in 1954) in Houston . It is named after the industrialist Robert Alonzo Welch. It is currently (2010) endowed with 300,000 dollars and has been awarded since 1972.

The award is given for research in chemistry that has had a significant, positive impact on humanity . The research contributions should not have previously been recognized in a similar way.
