Al-Minya ( Arabic محافظة المنيا Muhāfazat al-Minyā , DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Minyā , Egyptian-Arabic Muḥāfẓet El Minya ), also Minja , is a governorate in Egypt with 5,497,095 inhabitants and is located in Middle Egypt .

It borders the Bani Suwaif Governorate to the north, the al-Bahr al-ahmar governorate to the east, the Asyut and al-Wadi al-Jadid governorates to the south, and the al-Jiza governorate to the west . The eastern part of the governorate extends into the Arabian desert . The administrative center is al-Minya .
