Manuel António Gonçalves de Jesus

Manuel António Gonçalves de Jesus (* 1955 ) is a diplomat from Portugal .

Life

After joining the Foreign Service of the Portuguese Foreign Ministry , he worked in various positions. From 1989 to 1993 he was first secretary at the Portuguese embassy in Japan, after which he moved to the Portuguese representation in South Africa.

Gonçalves de Jesus became the responsible ambassador of his country for the first time when he was accredited to represent Portugal in East Timor in the capital Dili on April 23, 2013 . When he took office in 2013, he described the support of East Timor in teaching the Portuguese language and in economic development, including the expansion of trade relations, as a focus of the relations. He stayed there until 2017.

He has been head of the Portuguese embassy in Seoul since November 6, 2017 , where he was accredited as the Portuguese ambassador to South Korea and thus also as the representative of Portugal in North Korea on December 20, 2017 .
