Manuel Isler

Manuel Isler (* 1932 in Basel ; † July 2011 ) was a Swiss literary scholar and journalist .

Life

Isler received his doctorate in German studies from the University of Basel in 1959. He worked for the National-Zeitung and the Basler Zeitung for decades . From 1987 to 1997 he headed the Ringier School of Journalism . Peter Rothenbühler describes him as "the best of all heads of the Ringier School of Journalism, role model and teacher for entire generations of journalists".

From 1985 he headed the domestic department at the Basler Zeitung, which emerged from the “National-Zeitung” and “Basler Nachrichten”. He dealt journalistically but also with literature , e.g. B .: Otto F. Walter et al .: Thomas Mann - from today's perspective. A poll on the 100th birthday of the German writer on June 6th. On May 9, 1967, he shed a critical light on Gerhard Zwerenz 's new novel ' Casanova or The Little Lord in War and Peace ' on Swiss television .

In 1961 he married Vera Isler-Leiner .
