Manuel Joaquim de Matos Góis

Manuel Joaquim de Matos Góis (* 1781 in Goa , † April 14, 1832 in Dili , Portuguese Timor ) was a Portuguese nobleman ( Fidalgo da Casa Real ) and colonial administrator.

From 1821, Matos was governor of Portuguese Timor with the rank of frigate captain (nominated in 1820). During his tenure he had the colony searched for gold, copper, saltpeter and other mineral resources. In 1832 he died in the colonial capital Dili. A Conselho Governativo took over the administration of the colony until the successor of Matos arrived, but Miguel da Silveira Lorena also died shortly after arriving.

Matos's parents were Cipriano José de Matos e Góis and Maria Rita Freire de Castro da Cunha de Eça . He was married to Genoveva Ludovina Mourão Garcez Palha , with whom he had a daughter: Maria Antónia de Matos e Goes .
