Manolo Juarez

Manuel "Manolo" Juárez (born April 22, 1937 in Córdoba , Argentina ; † July 25, 2020 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine composer and music teacher .

Life

Manuel Juárez studied music theory with Jacobo Ficher , composition with Honorio Siccardi and Guillermo Graetzer and piano with Ruwin Erlich in Buenos Aires. He was a founding member of the Asociación de Jóvenes Compositores de la Argentina , which he chaired for several years, as well as the music department of the Argentine collecting society in Buenos Aires. In 1988 he founded the composers group Línea Adicional with Gabriel Valverde , Mariano Etkin , María Cecilia Villanueva and Erik Oña . He was a professor at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and director of the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda in Buenos Aires. He was also director of the Fondo Nacional de las Artes , founding director of the Conservatorio de Música Popular of Avellaneda and held the chair of classical composition at the Universidad de La Plata .

Juárez was also known as a composer of classical music - from symphonic works and chamber music to stage works and ballet - as well as of light music. He was awarded the Primer Premio Nacional de Música in 1995 and the Premio Fondo Nacional de las Artes a la Trayectoria Musical in 1997 and received a Premio Conex as Compositor de Folklore in 1995 and 2005 . His compositions have appeared on albums such as Manolo Juárez , Trío Juárez , De aquí en más , Encuentro , El que nunca se va and Grupo de familia .
