Manuel Lombardo (born December 4, 1998 ) is an Italian judoka .

Athletic career

Manuel Lombardo was active in the weight class up to 55 kilograms until 2014 . In 2014 he was third in the U18 European Championships. At the end of 2014 he was promoted to the weight class up to 60 kilograms. In 2015 he won the U18 European Championships. In 2016 he won a bronze medal at the Junior European Championships.

In 2017, Lombardo switched to half-light weight, the weight class up to 66 kilograms. At the U21 World Championships in 2017, he finished fifth. In 2018 he won the final of the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona against the Spaniard Alberto Gaitero . In September 2018 he became Junior European Champion, in October he won the U21 World Championships. At the beginning of 2019 he won the Grand Prix tournament in Tel Aviv. At the European Championships held in Minsk as part of the 2019 European Games , he defeated the German Sebastian Seidl in his first fight and was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Belarusian Dzmitryj Scherschan . Two months later he lost in the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Tokyo against Denis Vieru from the Republic of Moldova. After defeating the Ukrainian Bohdan Iadow, Lombardo was defeated by the Japanese Hifumi Abe in the battle for bronze and finished in fifth place. In October 2019 he reached the final of the Grand Slam in Brasília and lost to the Brazilian Daniel Cargnin . Three weeks later he also reached the final of the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi and won against Orxan Səfərov from Azerbaijan.
