Manuel Sánchez Ayuso

Manuel Sánchez Ayuso (born August 18, 1941 in Murcia , † November 8, 1982 in Valencia ) was a Spanish economist and politician of the Partido Socialista Popular (PSP) and the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE).

Life

Sánchez Ayuso studied law at the University of Valencia and received a doctorate in economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid .

Teaching

In 1970 he was appointed to the Chair of Political Economy at the Universidad de Deusto . In 1972 he was appointed to the University of Valencia. He also worked for the Bank of Spain and as an external employee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development .

Political career

In 1977 he stood as the top candidate of the PSP in the electoral district of Valencia province in the first democratic parliamentary elections in Spain since Francisco Franco's death as a candidate for the Congreso de los Diputados and moved as a member of the Congress. From April 1978 to June 1979 he was Minister for Health and Social Security in the Regional Parliament of the Valencian Community . Within the PSOE he represented the socialist left wing .

After the merger of the PSP with the PSOE in 1978, he received a seat in the parliament of the province of Valencia in the Spanish parliamentary elections in 1979 . In the PSOE, he was regarded as the head of a sub-sector known as the Socialist Left.

In the parliamentary elections in 1982 he ran as the third candidate on the list of the PSOE, but he died a few days earlier due to heart failure.

Honors

An Instituto de Educación Secundaria (IES) in Valencia is named after him.
