Portrait of Manuel Sahli (2018)

Manuel Sahli (born November 20, 1988 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss politician ( AL ) from Winterthur and has been a member of the Zurich Cantonal Council since 2015 .

Manuel Sahli is active at AL Winterthur and was elected to the board of the then newly founded AL Switzerland in 2010, of which he was a member until 2018. In 2014 he was elected to the supervisory committee of the Mechatronics School in Winterthur , which used to be his teaching company. As a member of the initiative committee «Preservation of the MSW», he campaigned for the preservation of the mechatronics school when the closure of the school was under discussion.

In the 2015 cantonal elections, Sahli was elected the second youngest candidate in the Zurich Cantonal Council. For the first time, he won a seat for a party to the left of the SP and the Greens in the Winterthur constituency. In his first legislature, he became a member of the Judicial Commission (JUKO), which oversees the courts and the public prosecutor's office. In addition, he submitted 14 proposals in this legislature as the first signatory, with the focus of his proposals in the area of fundamental rights and traffic. He submitted inquiries about the Tösstalbahn , planned train stations in Winterthur and dealt with the detention of underage prisoners in the Zurich police prison on the barracks area, which was criticized by the National Commission for the Prevention of Torture. A postulate submitted by him to create hitch-hiking stops in the canton of Zurich was referred to the government council. He also asked the government council for an accountability report on the use of state Trojans. According to the Tages-Anzeiger, Sahli stood out in the council with “straight, left-wing argumentation” and was listed by the daily newspaper in a list of the best newcomers in 6th place out of more than 70 newly elected and later cantonal councilors.

He was re-elected in the cantonal council elections in March 2019 and switched to the Business Audit Commission (GPK) in the new legislature.

Sahli works as a computer scientist at Swisscom . In his free time he writes on Wikipedia and was involved in the organization of WikiCon 2018, a conference of the German-speaking Wikipedia community. While working on Wikipedia, he discovered Ontario , a presumably fifth twin town of Winterthur. The existence of this partnership was no longer known in Winterthur.
