Maol Choluim, 5th Earl of Angus (English Malcolm , * before 1200 , † before 1242 ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was Donnchadh, 4th Earl of Angus , his mother's name is unknown. In 1214 at the latest he inherited his father as Earl of Angus .

Like his father, grandfather and great-grandfather before him, he supported the monastery in Arbroath with donations ; in the period between 1214 and 1226 he confirmed the overwriting of his ancestors, but also added new lands in Kirriemuir, Abthanery and Monifieth.

From 1231 he appeared several times as a witness to royal notarizations and donations for Alexander II ; on April 22, 1231 as Earl of Anegous , on October 7, 1232 as Earl of Angous and Katania and with Alexander II. Stay in Forres 1236 again as Earl of Angus . He also played an important role in 1237 as one of the royal representatives at the conference in York , at which various issues were discussed under the chairmanship of the papal legate Otho, including the rights of the royal Scottish fiefs on English soil.

Maol Choluim was married once, the name of his wife is not known. The use of the title Earl of Angous and Katania but on one of the royal documents suggesting that his wife, the daughter and heir of the 1231 deceased John, Earl of Caithness was Maol Choluim the second title of Jarl or mormaer of Caithness So jure uxoris led. Without a male heir, he renounced this title in favor of his uncle Magnus after the death of his wife . There was only one daughter from the marriage; Matilda , heiress and later Countess of Angus.
