Maria Julia “Maju” Mantilla Garcia (born July 10, 1984 in Trujillo ) is a Peruvian model . She won the Miss World title in 2004 .

biography

Mantilla García was named Miss World on December 4, 2004 in the Crown of Beauty Theater in Sanya ( People's Republic of China ). She succeeded the daughter of the singer Chris de Burgh , Rosanna Davison , and was only the second winner of this title from Peru. During her reign, Maria Julia Mantilla Garcia was involved in many charitable organizations and traveled around the world on their behalf.

As Vice-Miss-Peru-2004, behind the national winner Liesel Holler , she qualified for the final in China, which finally took place in Hainan . In the 54th edition of the Miss World Contest, Mantilla Garcia prevailed against participants from 107 countries.

Before the win, she worked as a model and in a Peruvian TV show. She studied to be a teacher and is planning a career in the tourism industry .

On December 10, 2005 she crowned her successor, Miss Iceland, Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir to Miss World.

In October 2010, Mantilla Garcia took part as a juror in the 60th Miss World election in Sanya , China . There she chose among others together with the former titleholders Denise Perrier (Miss World 1953), Ann Sidney (Miss World 1964), Mary Stävin (Miss World 1977), Agbani Darego (Miss World 2001), Zhang Zilin (Miss World 2007) and Xenia Sukhinova (Miss World 2008) won the 18-year-old American Alexandria Mills .
