Coordinates: 25 ° 47 ′  S , 148 ° 35 ′  E The Maranoa Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 58,704 km² and has about 13,000 inhabitants.

geography

The region is located in South West Queensland about 430 km west of the capital Brisbane . The western part of the LGA is drained by the eponymous Maranoa River , while the southeast is mainly fed directly to the Balonne River and thus belongs to the catchment area of the Murray River and thus the water flows into the Indian Ocean. The northeast of the Maranoa region, on the other hand, is drained by the Injune Creek and Fitzroy River and thus belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Fitzroy River , which flows into the Pacific Ocean.

The largest city and the administrative seat of the LGA is Roma with around 6800 inhabitants. history

In 2008 Roma Town and the four Shires Bendemere, Booringa, Bungil and Warroo were merged to form the Roma Region. A year later it was renamed the Maranoa Region.

administration

The Maranoa Regional Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor) and eight other councilors are elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
