Marathasa Valley

The Marathasa Valley (Greek: Κοιλάδα Μαραθάσας) is a fertile valley in the Troodos Mountains , about 65 km from Limassol in Cyprus . It lies north of the Olympos and extends into the administrative area of Nicosia and Limassol. It takes its name from Marathos , the ancient name for the fennel (Greek: Μάραθος) that grows in the area. The area is also known for its cherry cultivation.

The Marathasa Valley is the highest inhabited valley on the island with a total of 12 villages, including the highest village in Cyprus Prodromos , the European Destinations of Excellence funded Kalopanagiotis (with the church of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis ), Moutoullas with the Panagia tou Moutoulla , Lemythou , and Tris Elies . It is home to the Trooditissa Monastery and Kykkos Monastery .
