The Marbach is a left tributary of the Gera . The stream fed by the karst is naturally dry in summer. It rises west of the Erfurt district of the same name, Marbach am Käferberg. The Bachmannsgraben flows into the eastern edge of Marbach . In the area of Moskauer Platz the Marbach ran in concrete pipes to the former confluence with a mill ditch.

In connection with the Federal Garden Show 2021 , the lower area of the stream was renatured in 2019. It now flows directly into the Gera. In the future, the concrete pipes will be used by the Thuringian long-distance water supply to transport service water .
