Marbelup is a place in the Australian state of Western Australia . It is located about 20 kilometers west of Albany . The place is located in the traditional settlement area of the Aboriginal tribe of the Mineng .
geography
Marbelup is a large, dispersed settlement with no center at the gates of Albany. Elleker and Cuthbert are to the south of the village , to the west of Torbay, to the east of McKail, and to the north of Redmond and Drome .
The South Coast Highway , which connects Albany with Denmark , runs through Marbelup and crosses the railway line to Albany here.
The place is about seven kilometers north of the coast. In the south of the village there is a nature reserve, the Marbelup Nature Reserve .
History and etymology
The WA Land company, the company that built the Great Southern Railway , built a station called Marbelup in 1889.
In 1900 Marbelup was first included in a local dictionary. The name Marbelup has its origins in the language of the Mineng, but the meaning is unknown.
population
The town of Marbelup had a population of 350 people in 2016, of which 51.9% male and 48.1% female. There are no Aborigines or Torres Strait Islanders among them .
The average age in Marbelup is 35 years, three years less than the Australian average of 38 years.
