Great Southern Railway
Great Southern Railway (GSR) is a railroad company in Australia that operates a number of long-distance trains for the tourist market on routes of the standard gauge network. This includes:
- Indian Pacific ( Sydney - Adelaide - Perth )
- The Ghan ( Adelaide - Alice Springs - Darwin (Northern Territory) )
- The Overland ( Melbourne - Adelaide )
- The Southern Spirit (different routes, eight to ten times a year)
The company was created with the privatization of the Australian National Railway Company in 1997, from which the Great Southern Railway took over the operation of the first three trains mentioned and set up The Southern Spirit in 2008. While the fleet of cars used to run the trains belongs to the Great Southern Railway, the locomotives are rented from the Pacific National Railway Company .
The Great Southern Railway's parent company is Serco Asia Pacific.
