In Australia, the federal government there has commissioned Serco with the administration and operation of 11 immigration detention centers (as of 2018) as part of its migration and asylum policy in Australia , and the company has been involved in numerous scandals in the past.

The previous German subsidiary Serco GmbH, which emerged from ELEKLUFT and co-operates the privatized prison in Hünfeld , was renamed steep GmbH on July 1, 2012 following a management buy-out.
