Marc Amsler (born February 5, 1891 in Vevey , Switzerland ; † May 3, 1968 in Sierre , Switzerland) was a Swiss ophthalmologist and director of the Zurich Eye Clinic at the University of Zurich .

He took over this position in 1944 from his predecessor Alfred Vogt . Before that he had been chief ophthalmologist in Lausanne from 1935 , where he had taken over this position from Jules Gonin . Although he was best known for his Amsler grid eye test using the Amsler network, he has also made advances in knowledge of uveitis . The Amsler grid eye test was the further development of an eye test by Edmund Landolt . This is used to check the location of the highest visual acuity (yellow spot or macula ) in the retina , whereby macular degeneration becomes recognizable. Amsler has also published on keratoconus . In 1951, Amsler carried out the first corneal transplant at the Zurich Eye Clinic. He worked at this position until 1961, after which it was taken over by Rudolf Witmer (1919–1992).
