Marc Vervenne

Marc Vervenne (born April 16, 1949 in Ypres ) is a Flemish theologian . From 2005 to 2009 he was rector of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven .

He studied theology with a focus on the exegesis of the Old Testament and Northwest Semitic language at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, where he received his doctorate in 1986. In 1987 he became a lecturer at the KULeuven Theological Faculty, and in 1992 he was appointed professor here . He also holds visiting professorships in Lille and Kinshasa .

Vervenne is considered an expert in the field of the Old Testament. He takes part in several international research programs and is a member of the editorial board of various specialist journals.

He is married to Christine de Roo, with whom he has three children.
