André Oosterlinck

André Oosterlinck (born August 14, 1946 in Kalken (sub-municipality of Laarne )) is a Belgian engineer , professor and former rector of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven .

Oosterlinck first studied engineering ( industrial engineer ) at the Katholieke Hogeschool Sint-Lieven, then worked briefly at Siemens before continuing his engineering studies ( Burgerlijk engineer ) at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 1972 .

He was appointed professor in the Faculty of Engineering in the Electrical Engineering Department, where he did research in the field of machine vision . In this branch he co-founded ICOS in 1982 and Easics in 1991.

In 1995 he was elected rector of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and held this position for a maximum of 10 years. In 2004 he was appointed baron by King Albert II of Belgium - an award that several directors of the University of Leuven had already received. In 2005 he received the title of Honorary Citizen of Leuven .

During his time as rector, he was particularly committed to establishing networks with other research institutions such as IMEC , the Université Catholique de Louvain and the University of Cambridge .

Today he is chairman of the Associatie KULeuven, a network of university institutions committed to a strong position in the Flemish and European university landscape.
