Marcel Denis

Marcel Denis (born February 15, 1923 in Monceau-sur-Sambre , Belgium , † March 18, 2002 ) was a Belgian cartoonist and painter.

Life

Denis began his career in 1944 as a humorous illustrator for various Belgian magazines (including la Défense Sociale , la libre Belgique , le moustique , l'optimiste , le soir , le soir illustré ).

In 1947 he started drawing comics. His early works include the series »Pip« and »Le Professeur Vianrose« for the weekly magazine l'optimiste . Between 1947 and 1948 he realized a total of three episodes in the series "Les aventures de Jim et Bill Blutterson et du professeur Perkins" in the weekly magazine la Défense Sociale .

After working for a few years as a hand letterer for comics at Dupuis Verlag from 1952 , he joined André Franquin's drawing studio in 1957 . There he realized the scenarios for two short episodes of " Spirou and Fantasio ": "le Marsupilami passe l'éponge" and "les patins téléguidés".

In 1958 he created the humorous series »Les Frères Clips« for Spirou . In the following year he realized the story "l'île au Boumptérix" (Eng .: " The Bumteryx ", published in volume 22 of the " Spirou and Fantasio " series) with Jidéhem , André Franquin and Roba under the common pseudonym " Ley Kip " Carlsen Publishing House). From 1960 to 1961, during a creative break with the Will / Rosy duo, he took over the series "Tif et Tondu" (English: Harry and Platte ) for two episodes . He then temporarily assisted Marcel Remacle in his series "Vieux Nick" (German: Black Beard the Pirate ).

In later years he concentrated increasingly on painting.
