Marcel Fischer (art historian)

Marcel Fischer (born April 16, 1906 in Zurich ; † May 30, 1962 ) was a Swiss art historian and founding director of the Swiss Institute for Art Research .

Live and act

Marcel Rudolf Fischer was born as the son of the teacher Rudolf Fischer and his wife Emma (née Sollberger). He attended primary and secondary schools in Zurich and Küsnacht . After graduating from high school in 1925, he took the teaching diploma of the canton of Zurich , then worked in this profession in the canton and the city of Zurich and studied art history, archeology , geography and music history at the University of Zurich . In 1938 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . In 1951 he was the founder and until his death at the age of 56 director of the Swiss Institute for Art Research in Zurich. Fischer was the author or editor of numerous publications by the institute.
