Marcel Meyerdiercks (born July 17, 1987 in Wismar ) is a German boxer and former WBO intercontinental flyweight champion.

Career

amateur

Meyerdiercks started boxing at PSV Wismar under coach Fiete von Thien. In 2000 he won his first German championship in paper weight in Nuremberg, which he could not defend a year later in Berlin and became runner-up. In 2003, the Hanseatic city of Wismar won his second German championship. The 15-year-old was able to prevail in the class up to 46 kg and was also named the best fighter in the championship. In 2004 he was able to repeat his success in Marburg and box the cadet championship in the class up to 50 kg. In April 2005 Meyerdiercks won the German Junior Championship in Wismar again. The 17-year-old local hero beat Marcel Schinske on points in the final of the class up to 54 kg. Again he was also awarded an honorary award for best fighter.

At the 84th German Boxing Championships in Straubing, Meyerdiercks was able to confirm his successes in the youth field with the seniors. The featherweight won the final against his Halle opponent Marcel Herfurth on points. The 19-year-old sports soldier was once again named the best boxer of the championship bouts.

professional

In August 2007, Meyerdiercks surprisingly switched to professional life at the age of 20. After he was not called up for the international four-country tournament in Heidelberg by national coach Helmut Ranze despite good performances and an international tournament win in Debrecen, Hungary , the Wismar player, whose main goal was the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , decided to switch to Hamburger Universum boxing stable . There he was trained by Michael Timm .

Meyerdiercks completed his first professional fight on September 15, 2007 in Rostock against the Slovak Jozef Gabris.

Meyerdiercks fought on April 21, 2012 in Schwerin for the vacant WBO intercontinental title against Santiago Allione . He won unanimously on points (118: 110, 117: 111, 119: 109). With this victory, Meyerdierck's boxing career ended for the time being. Since the Universum boxing stable was in financial difficulties, but it was contractually bound, he lost his title after more than 12 months without a fight and was also removed from the world rankings. After briefly trying a fresh start with Uli Wegner , he ended his career.
