Marcella Albani , actually Aida Annita Maranca , (* December 7, 1899 in Rome , † May 11, 1959 in Wiesbaden ) was an Italian actress, film producer and author who was particularly successful in German silent films.

Life

Her father, Oreste Maranca, owned a prestigious inn in Trastevere . She attended the secondary school for girls, the grammar school and the Gabelsberger-Nöe-stenography school in Rome. She received her training as an actress at the Akademia Santa Cecilis in Rome.

She was discovered for the film by Guido Parisch , who gave her the stage name Marcella Albani . Her film debut was in 1919 in agony of Myriam film in which she played the lead role. After another film for the Myriam film, Albani shot numerous films for the Amrosio film in Turin from 1920 to 1922 . She worked with Parisch as a director on the dramas and adventure flicks.

Albani came to Berlin with Parisch in 1923 and enjoyed immediate success in Germany. She shot first for the Berlin Nivo-Film, and from 1924 for her own Marcella Albani GmbH . Until 1926, Guido Parisch mostly directed her films under the pseudonym Guido Schamberg . During the entire 1920s she embodied elegant southern beauties in German silent films. She also appeared in French, Czechoslovak and Austrian films.

With the emergence of the talkie, she devoted herself more to her literary work and published some novels such as Glauca, l'amata l'innamorata , which appeared in German as Liebelei and Liebe . La Citta dell 'Amore was made into a film by the director Mario Franchini . Franchini had been her husband since 1931, with whom she had a child. She died of a tumor.
