Marcella d'Arle
Marcella d'Arle (born May 30, 1906 in Rome as Marcella Bochskandl , † March 2, 2002 ) was an Italian journalist , author of children's books and travelogues, and a profound expert on Islam . As a Christian , she risked her life in the city of Mecca, which is forbidden for non-Muslims .
Life
Marcella d'Arle was born in Rome. After her marriage, she lived in Vienna and worked as a journalist for daily newspapers such as Kurier und Presse and the Wiener Illustrierte. In the 50s and 60s she traveled to all continents and in particular the Middle East . Her research on a Sicilian Mafia boss earned her a day in prison and a ban on entering Italy.
Literary work (selection)
Her literary work conveys the author's intimate knowledge of Islamic life. She was a guest in princely harems , but also knew the life and thinking of common people.
