The Marcellinus Chapel (popularly: Stumpe Kirch ) is a church ruin from the 13th and 14th centuries. Century. It is located close to the Nidder , two kilometers below Burkhards in the Vogelsbergkreis in Hesse .

history

The rectangular gothic hall church was built in the second half of the 13th century on a resting place of the funeral procession of Boniface of Mainz to his dream resting place Fulda . It is 17.10 meters long and 8.85 meters wide. The funeral procession stayed at this point on the night of July 13-14, 754. The remains of the church were discovered and excavated in 1931 by Büdinger chamber director and forester Karl Theodor Christian Müller (1856–1938). Parts of the walls were restored, and an altar and a cross were added later. The church was probably initially called Mirtzeler Church (Martyrs Church), which over time was reinterpreted as Marcellinus Church (after the holy martyr Marcellinus ). In the course of the Reformation, the church was given up and fell into disrepair.

The Stumpe Kirch is located directly on the Bonifatius Route and on Via Antiqua or Rechten Nidderstraße .
