Marcelo Fabián Domínguez (born January 15, 1970 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine professional boxer and former world champion of the WBC cruiserweight.

Career

He started professional boxing in 1991 and remained undefeated in his first 15 fights, becoming Argentine cruiserweight champion. In December 1994 he lost for the first time just on points for the WBC title against Anaclet Wamba (44-2). However, this put down the world title shortly afterwards. Domínguez then won the title in July 1995 through tKo against the French European champion Akim Tafer (20-5) and defended it against his compatriot Reinaldo Gimenez (19-4), the Russian Sergei Kobosew (22-0), the French Patrice Aouissi ( 16-1), the Brazilian José da Silva (21-1) and again against Akim Tafer (23-6).

It was only in February 1998 that he lost the title by losing points to the Cuban Juan Gómez (22-0). After four consecutive victories there was a rematch, but Domínguez lost again on points. Six wins later, including against George Arias (29-2) and Jose Gomes (24-1), he boxed for the WBO title against Johnny Nelson (39-12) in July 2001 . He lost again on points.

In his following ten fights he was among other things Argentine and South American heavyweight champions, but was defeated in two fights against Nikolai Valujew (35-0) and Cengiz Koç (20-0). In the fight for another World Cup chance, he lost for the first time prematurely against Enzo Maccarinelli (23-1).
