Marcheline Bertrand

Marcia Lynne "Marcheline" Bertrand (born May 9, 1950 in Blue Island , † January 27, 2007 in Los Angeles ) was an American actress . She gained fame mainly through the fame of her daughter Angelina Jolie .

Life

Bertrand was born at St. Francis Hospital in Blue Island, Illinois , and grew up with her younger siblings Debbie and Raleigh in neighboring Riverdale . The family of her father Rolland F. Bertrand (1923–1985) came from the French-speaking part of Canada , the ancestors of her mother Lois June Bertrand (née Gouwens; 1928–1973) were of Dutch and German origin. In 1965, the Bertrands moved to Beverly Hills , California , where Marcheline attended Beverly Hills High School.

She received her acting training at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute . In 1971 she starred in an episode of the American crime series The Boss . On December 12 of the same year, Bertrand married the actor Jon Voight . The marriage resulted in two children, James Haven (* 1973) and Angelina Jolie (* 1975). The couple separated in 1976, and Bertrand filed for divorce in 1978, which became final on April 14, 1980.

In 1982 she stood in front of the camera with her daughter and Jon Voight for the film Two in the Ink and finally played her last film role in 1983 in the comedy Women Were His Hobby , a remake of The Man Who Loved Women (1977). In 2005, Bertrand worked with Haven and Jolie as Executive Producer of the documentary Trudell about the life of the Indian poet, musician and activist John Trudell . Most recently she was the manager of her daughter Angelina Jolie.

Bertrand died in Los Angeles in 2007 after a longstanding illness of ovarian and breast cancer . Angelina Jolie named her daughter Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt, born in 2008, after Bertrand.
