Marcia Falkender, Baroness Falkender

Marcia Matilda Falkender, Baroness Falkender CBE (previously Marcia Matilda Williams , maiden name Field; * March 10, 1932 ; † February 6, 2019 ) was a British politician who, as Harold Wilson's private secretary for decades, influenced the Labor Party governments led by him would have.

Life

After attending school, she studied history at Queen Mary College of the University of London and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). She then worked at the Labor Party headquarters before becoming Harold Wilson's private secretary and political secretary in 1956, where she held this position until 1983.

During his tenure as Prime Minister from 1964 to 1970 and from 1974 to 1976, she had a particular influence on the government's background work. She wrote the autobiographical book Inside No. about her role in the Prime Minister's Office at 10 Downing Street from 1964 to 1970 . 10 (1972).

For her services, she was admitted to the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1974 as a Life Peeress with the title Baroness Falkender , of West Haddon in the County of Northamptonshire , and was from then on a member of the House of Lords .

After finishing her work for Harold Wilson, she became a columnist for the conservative weekly newspaper The Mail on Sunday in 1983 .
