Marcin Marciniec (historical Martinus Marczinecz , even Martin the Younger ; † 23. March 1518 in Krakow , Polish Kingdom ) was the most important goldsmith of the late Gothic period in Poland.

Life

He came from a family of goldsmiths that can be traced back to Krakow in the early 15th century. The father's name was also Martin. In 1497 Martin d. J. already has a workshop with 20 employees. In 1490, 1499 and 1509 he was head of the goldsmiths guild in Krakow. From 1501 he also worked for Sigismund , the future King of Poland. In 1509 Martin became a member of the city council and remained so until his death. In 1509 and 1513 he was the first mayor.

A will from 1517 has been preserved. He died in Cracow on March 23 (or 27?) 1518. Martin was married to Elisabeth. His son also became a goldsmith.
