Marco Feliciano (2013)

Marco Feliciano (born October 12, 1972 in Orlândia , São Paulo state ) is a Brazilian pastor, politician and advocate of the Brazilian evangelical Christians .

Life

Marco Feliciano studied theology at the "Faculdade Educação Teológica Logos (FAETEL)" in São Paulo and at the "Faculdade de Teologia de Boa Vista (Fatebov)" and received his doctorate in 2005 in Pompano Beach , USA as a "Doctor of Divinity". He is a pastor in the largest Pentecostal church in Brazil, the Assembleia de Deus ( Assembly of God ), which has over eight million believers in Brazil.

In the elections in Brazil in 2010 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies (Câmara dos Deputados) of the Congresso Nacional for the Social Christian Party (PSC) , which achieved seventeen seats, and was a member of the Congresso Nacional from February 1, 2011. In parliament, the evangelical members of parliament form a non-partisan community of interests with 77 of 513 members. Since the government under President Dilma Rousseff was looking for support from the evangelicals, Feliciano was elected chairman of the “Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Issues and Minorities” in March 2013. He had been a member of the Podemos protest party since 2018 , but was expelled from that party on December 9, 2019.

His election as chairman of the committee received a lot of public attention and was accompanied by protests. The committee recommended, under his leadership, a draft law that would allow psychologists and psychiatrists to treat homosexuality as a disease. After protests, the project was withdrawn.

Feliciano is also a staunch opponent of abortion .

Controversy

Feliciano has said that the Africans are victims of a curse from Noah's time, which earned him the accusation of racism .

In a video of a sermon he led, which Feliciano posted on YouTube in April 2013 , he claimed that Catholics worship the devil and that the habit of hanging crucifixes is idolatry and prostitution of Jesus and other biblical figures. Catholicism also promotes homosexuality: "My Jesus was not intended as a homosexual necklace".

Feliciano was accused of sexually molesting her by a 22 year old. After declining an offer of a position with a salary of 15,000 reais in return for sexual favors, Feliciano was violent. He then offered her hush money. "He offered me a sack of money, but I refused."
