Marco Tempest

Marco Tempest (born December 3, 1964 in Zurich ) is a Swiss, New York based, internationally active magician and illusionist . His self-chosen artist name is The Virtual Magician (dt. The Virtual Magician ).

Recently, Marco Tempest has attracted a certain amount of worldwide attention relatively quickly, primarily through posting short films on YouTube and other public video portals. But he is also famous with his audience with traditional magic and as a presenter of live events. Marco Tempest is particularly prominent due to his numerous national TV appearances in Asia, especially in Korea and Japan , but also in his adopted home, the USA .

The multi-part television series called The Virtual Magician (dt. The Virtual Magician ), the inventor and presenter he is and has been broadcast in over 50 countries, including the German-speaking, represents the interim peak of his career. In addition to the broadcast of this series and Marco Tempest is best known for his internet activities in Germany through individual guest contributions or short reports from several TV stations.

Artistic style

Marco Tempest's work is characterized by a mixture of traditional magic, computer effects and multimedia video art. A typical effect he has shaped is, for example, the transfer of a real object or a real person to a screen display, in which the person or the object virtually disappears in the picture surface. He himself calls this "virtual magic".

Dance choreographies were also an essential design element, especially in earlier stage shows.

Self-marketing

Marco Tempest has been using viral marketing since 2006 by distributing effective films on video platforms on the Internet. In the meantime, over 20 parts of the “Magic PhoneCam” series have already been published in this way and accessed millions of times. These film contributions are shot continuously with a simple mobile phone camera without editing and are not subsequently edited using video technology. Nevertheless, “magical” things happen in these films, such as the sudden overcoming of long distances or the growth of objects, and thus exert a great fascination on the viewer. Often it is optical illusions or other manipulations. Although the films seem very amateurish and spontaneous, they are obviously sometimes produced with greater effort in teamwork and are meticulously staged. Marco Tempest has always played the leading role in the films. At irregular intervals, Marco Tempest and his team publish "exposed" videos (making-of versions of the films) that reveal how individual tricks were implemented. He repeatedly proves that his videos can actually do without video editing. Since mid-2007 Marco Tempest has switched to the still less known video platform LiveVideo, where he mainly publishes his video contributions, some exclusively.
