Racial slurs
Marco Zoro achieved sad notoriety on November 27, 2005 when, on the occasion of the Serie A game between FC Messina and Inter Milan, Inter fans wailed monkeys, boos and racist insults such as "dirty negro" etc. was insulted. In the 66th minute, Zoro took the ball, ran to his team's bench and initially refused to play. However, teammates and opposing players were able to persuade Zoro to finish the game. Then four Inter fans were banned from the stadium. Due to this and other similar incidents in Italian stadiums, all games were kicked off with a five-minute delay on the following match day. In solidarity with Marco Zoro and other dark-skinned players, a banner with the slogan "Stop racism" was rolled out on the following match day. Nevertheless, the events repeated on April 2, 2006 when it came to the second leg match between Messina and Inter Milan. Again Marco Zoro was insulted with racist screams.
