Marcus Afranius Hannibalianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marcus Afranius Hannibalianus was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 3rd century AD .

A dedicatory inscription found at Fort Solva and which is dated to 251/280 proves that Hannibalianus was the tribune of the Cohors I Ulpia Pannoniorum victrix , who was stationed in the province of Pannonia superior at that time .

Remarks

  1. According to Péter Kovács, Barnabás Lőrincz, the cognomen could also have been Hannibal , but this is very rarely documented during the imperial era.
  2. According to Péter Kovács, Barnabás Lőrincz, the tribune is either the father of Afranius Hannibalianus , the consul of the year 292, or he is identical to the consul.
