Johann Friedrich von Möllendorff (born July 1, 1831 in Schkopau , † July 31, 1905 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Friedrich was a son of the Prussian general of the infantry Johann Carl von Möllendorff (1791-1860) and his second wife Ulrike, née von Trotha (1805-1835).

Military career

Möllendorff first visited the cadet house in Potsdam from September 1842 , but was released early at the end of December 1846 at the request of his father. On May 19, 1849 he joined the Guard Dragoons Regiment of the Prussian Army as a dragoon and was transferred to the 1st Guard Uhlan Regiment in mid-October 1850 while being promoted to Second Lieutenant . From June 1858 to May 1860 Möllendorff served as regimental adjutant and in the meantime advanced to Rittmeister until the end of September 1859 . As squadron chief he took part in the battle of Königgrätz during the war against Austria in 1866 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords , for his work .

After the war Möllendorff rose to major and at the beginning of May 1870 was transferred to the 1st Brandenburg Uhlan Regiment (Emperor of Russia) No. 3 as a regular staff officer . In this capacity he took part in the 1870/71 war against France in the battles at Vionville , Orléans and Le Mans as well as the coup d'état on Laon . At times he was entrusted with the command of the regiment for the detached commander Friedrich von der Groeben and was awarded the Iron Cross II class and the Order of Saint Anna II class with swords.

On December 12, 1872, Möllendorff was initially commissioned with the command of the Brandenburg Cuirassier Regiment (Emperor Nicolaus I of Russia) No. 6 under position à la suite and after his promotion to lieutenant colonel he was appointed regimental commander on September 2, 1873. In this capacity he took part in the Russian military exercises near Warsaw and Saint Petersburg in the summer of 1874 at the invitation of the Tsar . Möllendorff was promoted to colonel at the end of March 1876 , was awarded the Order of the Crown, Second Class , in September 1880 , and in March / April 1881 he was sent to Saint Petersburg for the burial of Emperor Alexander II .
