Johann Carl von Möllendorff

Johann Karl Wolff Dietrich von Möllendorff (born March 20, 1791 in Reinsdorf , † November 6, 1860 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

He did not come from the family described in Moellendorff (noble family) , but from the second family of the same name, also ancient noble family, which died out in the 20th century.

His parents were Johann Friedrich Magnus von Möllendorff and his wife Karoline, née von Raschau. The father was the master of Reinsdorf and Lohnsdorf.

Military career

Möllendorff attended school in Merseburg and joined the infantry regiment of the King of the Prussian Army on March 2, 1804 as a private corporal . He was born on March 16, 1806 Ensign , decreased during the Fourth Coalition War at the Battle of Auerstedt part and fell on the decline in Erfurt in captivity .

After the peace of Tilsit Möllendorff was aggregated on February 28, 1810 as a second lieutenant with a patent from January 16, 1808 in the regiment of the guard . It was retired on February 21, 1811 and its patent backdated to August 28, 1806. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Leipzig and Paris , where he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class. Before that he was at the siege of Erfurt . By mid-August 1815 Möllendorff advanced to captain and company commander . On October 13, 1821, he was promoted to major and transferred as commander of the III. On September 26, 1834 he received the Order of St. Anne II. Class and on January 18, 1837 the Order of St. John . A short time later, on July 12, 1837, he was assigned to lead the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot and Möllendorff was appointed regiment commander on January 14, 1838. In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1838 and on June 8, 1838 Möllendorff received the diamonds for the Order of Saint Anna II. Class. On March 30, 1840, he became a colonel with a patent from April 10, 1840 . On May 13, 1843 he received the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class and on October 17, 1844 he became the commander of the 2nd Guard Infantry Brigade . On March 31, 1846, he was promoted to major general and on August 4, 1846, he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus, First Class.

During the March Revolution of 1848 it was his job to protect the Berlin Palace . His soldiers advanced to Alexanderplatz ; he led the right wing column and took Friedrichstadt with it . The fighting stopped on March 19, but Möllendorff was then captured by the insurgents and severely beaten.

After he recovered, he took part in the First Schleswig-Holstein War . He distinguished himself in the Battle of Schleswig on April 23, 1848 , and received the Pour le Mérite order from the King personally on September 18, 1848 . He was then appointed commander of the 1st Guard Division on December 4, 1849 . Two years later he was promoted to Lieutenant General on April 19, 1851 , received the Russian White Eagle Order on June 21, 1851 and the Grand Cross of the Leopold Order on December 21, 1852 . He also received the Russian Alexander Nevsky Order on March 14, 1852 and, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, on March 3, 1852, the diamonds for the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st class with oak leaves. In 1854 he became a legal knight of the Order of St. John, newly established in 1852 .

He received his on February 3, 1857 Farewell to the character as General of Infantry plus a pension. On February 9, 1857 he was retired to z. D. , in addition he received the Grand Commander's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern . On June 16, 1859, he was transferred to the army officers à la suite . As leader of a delegation for the inauguration of the monument of Tsar Nicholas I in Saint Petersburg , he received the diamonds for the Alexander Nevsky Order on July 26, 1859. He fell ill on his return, died on November 6, 1860 in Berlin and was buried on November 9, 1860 in the garrison cemetery in Potsdam.

family

Möllendorff married on October 2, 1822 in Berchlitz Helene Klothilde Ottilie von Wulffen (1803-1825), a granddaughter of General Georg Ludolf von Wulffen . The marriage resulted in a son (* / † 1823) and daughter Helene Elisabeth Johanna Karoline (* / † 1825), who died in the year of their birth.

After the death of his first wife he married on March 8, 1829 in Schkopau Ulrike von Trotha (1805-1835) out of the house Schkopau. She was a daughter of Karl August von Trotha (1773–1848) The couple had several children:
