Barnabás Lőrincz

Barnabás Lőrincz (born February 28, 1951 in Budapest , Hungary ; † July 4, 2012 ibid) was a Hungarian provincial Roman archaeologist whose focus was on researching the ephigraphic evidence of the Roman military in Pannonia .

Life

Lőrincz spent his childhood in the home; Throughout his life he struggled with financial problems through no fault of his own. He attended the Faculty of Humanities at the Loránd Eötvös University (ELTE) in Budapest from 1969 to 1974 and received his diploma as an archaeologist in 1974 . From July 1974 to March 1984 he worked as an archaeologist and museologist for the Intercisa Museum in Dunaújváros . During this time he took part in several excavation campaigns by the archaeologist Zsolt Visy in the area of Fort Intercisa . In 1984 one of his most important mentors, András Mócsy , appointed him(1929–1987), on the chair of antiquity at the Loránd Eötvös University. There he worked as a lecturer until 1989 and was then given an extraordinary professorship . In 1976 he obtained his Magister Artium , received his doctorate in Ancient History in 1984 and in 2002 was appointed Doctor Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae (MTA doktora). In 2004 Lőrincz completed his habilitation at ELTE. The scientist has participated in national and international specialist congresses since 1974 and has been a professor for Roman history since 1984 . In addition to these obligations, he accompanies doctoral students as a trainer and consultant.

Lőrincz received various national awards, the Révay Prize (1982) and the Marót Károly Prize (2003), both from the Hungarian Society for Classical Studies (Magyar Ókortudományi Társaság) and in 1995 the Bálint Kuzsinszky Medal of the Hungarian Society for Archeology and Art history (Magyar Régészeti és Művészettörténeti Társaság) . He was also a member of various societies and associations. These include the Hungarian Society for Archeology and Art History , the Hungarian Society for Classical Studies (since 2000) and the International Society for Greek and Latin Epigraphy . Lőrincz has been a member of the Ancient History Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2002 and has been on the international editorial staff of the Études Militaires Anciennes in Paris since 2004 .
