Marcus Claudius Marcellus (Consul 51 BC)
Marcus Claudius Marcellus (* probably 95 BC ; † 45 BC in Piraeus ) was a Roman politician of the late Republic and one of the consuls of 51 BC. Chr.
He was in 64 BC. Together with Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis Quaestor urbanus.
As an opponent of Gaius Julius Caesar , he operated during his consulate to recall him from the governorship in Gaul. After Caesar's victory in the civil war, he lived in exile in Mytilene on Lesbos. Cicero and other senators such as Caesar's father-in-law Lucius Calpurnius Piso and Marcellus' cousin Gaius Claudius Marcellus reached 46 BC. His pardon. When Caesar granted this, Cicero delivered the acceptance speech that he had received by Pro Marcello (four letters from Cicero to Marcellus and one from him have also been preserved). On the way to Rome , Marcellus was murdered in Piraeus.
