history

Marcus Laurentius Wallenberg was the son of Enskilda Bank founder André Oscar Wallenberg and his wife Anna Eleonora Charlotta von Sydow. After finishing school, Wallenberg went to the Navy , studied law and became a lawyer in Uppsala in 1888 . In 1892 he became a member of the management team and Vice President of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken AB , which is still owned by the Wallenberg family to this day .

Foundation of AB Diesels Motorer

After purchasing the Swedish licenses from Rudolf Diesel for 100,000 SEK in 1898 , Marcus Wallenberg immediately founded the company AB Diesels Motorer near Stockholm. It merged in 1917 to form Nya AB Atlas and, with its four product lines of steam engines , steam locomotives , compressed air tools & compressors and diesel & marine diesel engines, was particularly well positioned for industrialization . This created the basis for the growing success of the bank and today's international Wallenberg group of companies, which have a 10-40% stake in many well-known, predominantly Scandinavian industrial companies.

Honors

In 1920 Marcus Wallenberg became the first honorary member of the Swedish Academy of Engineering due to his activities in the Swedish industry, especially the establishment of AB Diesels Motorer.

Marcus Wallenberg was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1939 .
