Marcus Maeder

Marcus Maeder (born December 7, 1971 in Zurich ) is a Swiss artist , researcher and composer . The main focus of his artistic work is on sound art and electronic music . As an author, Maeder writes on various topics in the media arts and artistic research .

Life

Marcus Maeder studied Fine Art at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Philosophy at the Distance University in Hagen and is currently completing a PhD in environmental sciences at the ETH Zurich . He is the operator of the music label domizil , which he founded in 1996 together with Bernd Schurer. Maeder worked as an editor and producer for Swiss radio SRF and has been a research assistant at the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology ICST at the Zurich University of the Arts since 2005 .

At the ICST Maeder conducts research in the areas of sonification and acoustic ecology. He is particularly interested in the artistic making accessible and researching normally imperceptible phenomena in nature, especially processes that are related to climate change and environmental problems.

Marcus Maeder has received work and composition commissions from the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia and the support program sitemapping from the Swiss Federal Office for Culture as well as production contributions from the city of Zurich . As a radio play writer, Maeder realized productions for Austrian radio and Swiss radio SRF 2 Kultur .

Maeder's sound installation trees: Pinus sylvestris was shown at the UN climate conference COP 21 in Paris at the invitation of French President François Hollande . His installation '' Espirito da floresta / Forest spirit '' was presented in 2017 at the headquarters of the Inter-American Development Bank IDB in Washington. In 2017, Marcus Maeder and Roman Zweifel received an award from the STARTS Prize of the European Commission at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz.
