Marcus E. Raichle
Marcus E. Raichle (* 1937 ) is an American neuroscientist at Washington University in St. Louis .
Raichle earned a bachelor's degree in 1960 and graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1964 . He became a specialist in neurology and has worked at Washington University in St. Louis since 1972 . Here he is (as of 2014) Professor of Radiology , Neurology, Neurobiology and Biomedical Engineering .
Raichle is considered a pioneer in the functional representation of the nervous system. He researched numerous neurological and psychiatric disorders using positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure regional cerebral blood flow . His work provides the basis for the Human Connectome Project and led to the discovery of the Default Mode Network .
Other work deals with brain activity in normal processes such as speaking, memory or emotion.
His more than 350 original works have been cited over 127,000 times (as of May 2018). He is also the author of more than 140 reviews and book chapters. His h-index was 158 in May 2018.
