The Mardi Gras is a cruise ship under construction for the US shipping company Carnival Cruise Line . The Helios class ship with a measurement of 180,800 GT is due to be completed in November 2020. The Mardi Gras will be the largest ship on Carnival Cruise Line.

history

After Carnival Corporation & plc had already ordered four ships from Meyer Werft and Meyer Turku in 2015 with delivery from 2019 to 2022, three more ships were ordered in September 2016 for P&O Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line with delivery in 2020 and 2022, including the Mardi Gras

Construction began on November 15, 2018. On December 5, 2018, the name Mardi Gras was announced. The ship was given the same name as the first ship on the Carnival Cruise Line, which operated from 1972 to 1993.

The keel was laid on June 18, 2019 at the Meyer Turku shipyard , after a 140-meter-long floating engine room module was delivered by the Netun shipyard and transferred to Finland in May . The Mardi Gras floated up on January 24, 2020 and was moved to the equipment quay. The cost is approximately $ 950 million.

After delivery was originally planned for August 2020, the delivery date in December 2019 has been postponed to November 2020. On November 14, 2020, the first Mardi Gras cruise should start from Port Canaveral . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the maiden voyage was later postponed to February 2021.

Furnishing

The Mardi Gras will have 18 passenger decks and accommodate up to 6338 guests in 2,641 cabins. It is the first cruise ship to be equipped with a roller coaster , the “BOLT-Ultimate Sea Coaster”.

technology

The Mardi Gras is the fourth ship in the Helios class . The ships can be operated with liquefied natural gas . For Carnival Cruise Line it is the first ship with this technology. Another sister ship destined for Carnival Cruise Line is due to be delivered in 2022.
