The Iklan, formerly slaves of the Tuareg of Bankilaré , settle in the south and southwest of the Mare d'Ossolo.

Economical meaning

Along with the reservoir at the Téra dam and the Mare de Tabalak , the Mare d'Ossolo is one of the most important still waters in Niger used for fishing . The people of the surrounding hamlets practice fishing from November to February. After being smoked by women, the fish are sold in the markets in the surrounding villages and through fish wholesalers in the center of Téra. The land around the lake is also important for pasture farming.
