Marek Arnold

Marek Arnold (born November 7, 1974 in Meerane ) is a German saxophonist , keyboardist , clarinetist , composer , music teacher and producer .

Career

The saxophonist and keyboard player is active in bands and projects as well as composer and producer, especially in the progressive and art rock scene.

He is a studio and guest musician for international bands in these genres. He is also active live with his easy-listening band “Passage” and together with the current SCM singer Manuel Schmid .

Already with his first own band TOXIC SMILE he achieved the dream of a major deal with BMG in 2001 , the album " MAD " entered the South Korean album charts, combined with tour and airplay in Asia. Until the dissolution in May 2018, the band released 9 CDs, EPs and DVDs that were highly traded in the ProgMetal scene.

Marek Arnold was able to get along with his bands and international projects " seven steps to the green door ", CYRIL, FLAMING ROW, United Progressive Fraternity , DAMANEK and others. v. a. Making a name in the international progressive rock scene is on a joint CD with stars like Steve Hackett (Genesis) and Jon Anderson (YES) and as a guest musician on countless albums (including SUBSIGNAL , ARGOS , THE SAMURAI OF PROG , MANNING , KARIBOW and many more) and toured with his bands and Australian and British musicians all over Europe (UPF 2014, seven steps to the green door 2016/2017, Karibow 2017, DAMANEK / Southern Empire 2018).

From 2010 to 2012 he was a member of STERN-COMBO MEISSEN and as a result of his compositions for the album “Lebensuhr” the paths also crossed with the current singer and keyboardist Manuel Schmid, with whom he works on albums and live today.

Since the founding of the own studio "B`side-music" countless CD productions, recordings, arrangements and commissioned compositions have been created.

Marek also teaches various instruments at a youth art school, gives recording studio courses and band coaching.

Life

Marek Arnold grew up in Meerane in Saxony . He received his first recorder lessons at the age of five and learned to play the clarinet at the Glauchau music school with Albert Jäger at the age of eight . He became a member of the Meerane youth wind orchestra, in which he played until the age of 15. At the age of 15, he also learned the saxophone, played in the Wolfgang Prager salon orchestra and, together with Udo Rupkalwis and Steffen Würker, founded his first band in 1992, “The Gentlemen - the Perfect Chaos”, a music joke band with which he made his first public appearances. a. before the Reichstag, veiled by Christ, in 1995. At the same time, he began to work with synthesizers and the Atari ST and wrote his first own compositions in the field of electronic music. In 1992 and 1995, presentation films of the Chemnitzer Land district with his music were released.

In 1994 Marek Arnold began studying popular music saxophone (with Konrad Körner ) and music education at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig , which he successfully completed in 1999.

In January 1996 he founded the progressive metal band " Toxic Smile " together with Daniel Zehe (drums) . In the following years, the band released 9 albums and DVDs with various record companies before disbanding in 2018.

Since 1997 Marek Arnold has been playing in various bands from jazz (including Passage, Swing Kon.action), hip-hop (Sooshee), rock (Masslos) to metal (Grain of Sand, Testimony).

Together with Ulf Reinhardt (drums) and Heiko Rehm (bass), he founded the progressive crossover band " seven steps to the green door " in 2004 . The debut album "The Puzzle" was released in August 2006 and immediately won the German Rock and Pop Prize in 2 categories (experimental / progressive). By 2019 the band released 4 more albums. Arnold is also active with the progressive rock band "CYRIL", founded in 2012, and will publish 3 concept albums by 2019. Other band projects are “Flaming Row”, “United Progressive Fraternity” (together with ex-members of “ Unitopia ” and “ The Tangent ”), “DAMANEK” and the like. a.

Over the years, Marek Arnold built his own recording studio, which he has been running since 2007 together with the studio of the Free Youth Art School Waldenburg, where he has been teaching since 2004. He works as a guest musician in various bands and productions, publishes his own productions under the studio name "B`side-music" and produces for external musicians.

From 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the East German art rock band “ Stern Combo Meissen ” together with his “Toxic Smile” bandmates Larry B. and Robert Brenner . After 24 years, the Stern Combo Meissen released a new studio album in 2011 called "Lebensuhr", on which he was able to bring in 3 titles. In July 2012 all 3 musicians left the band due to big disagreements within the band.

With the new singer of the Stern Combo Meissen, Manuel Schmid , Arnold will work together live and in the studio from 2012. He works on his solo albums and writes other titles for Stern Combo Meissen. The joint album "Zeiten" will be released in January 2019.
