Marek Plura

Marek Mirosław Plura (born July 18, 1970 in Racibórz ) is a Polish politician of the Platforma Obywatelska ( Civic Platform ).

Marek Plura has suffered from muscular dystrophy since he was born and is therefore in a wheelchair. He studied at the Philosophical-Pedagogical University Ignatianum ( Wyższa Szkoła Filozoficzno-Pedagogiczna "Ignatianum" ) in Krakow and graduated with a master's degree . Later he also studied psychotherapy at the Silesian University in Katowice . He is the founder of the Dobry Dom ( Good House ) association and was president of Akcent , an association for the training and rehabilitation of the disabled. In the 2005 parliamentary elections , he applied for a seat in the Sejm for the first time , but was unsuccessful. In 2006 he became a councilor in Katowice . In the early parliamentary elections in the following year , Plura entered constituency 31 Katowice. With 10,528 votes he was able to win a mandate for the Sejm.

In the 2014 European elections , Plura was elected to the European Parliament .

Marek Plura is married and has two children.
